After studying engineering, he prepared a thesis in energy economics and then carried out research within the framework of the Economic and Legal Institute of Energy (IEJE) in Grenoble, from 1973 to 1985. Professor at l ‘Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, mandated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and consultant to the United Nations (UNDP) for the Regional Energy Development Program from 1986 to 1988, then director of the economic service of the French Agency for energy management (AFME) in 1989-1990.
In 1991, he founded, with Bruno Lapillonne, the office of studies, research and information on energy: Enerdata, which he chaired until 2012, and of which he is currently scientific advisor. He has long specialized in energy demand prospective studies and energy efficiency studies. As such, he is co-founder, still with Bruno Lapillonne, of the MEDEE method and models, then of the DATAMED and ODYSSEE databases.
