This paper investigates the speed of adoption of energy technologies in a traditionally innovation importing country, Portugal, as compared with countries where these technologies first started e.g. natural gas plants or  wind turbines ; the rate of diffusion accelerates as the technology reaches Portugal ; relationship between extent and duration of diffusion is less marked in Portugal ; technological factors and structural requirements combined explain diffusion patterns.
